HAMLET
"There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so."
"This above all: to thine ownself be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man."

William Shapespeare
(born April 23, 1564, died 1616-05-03) was an English playwright and poet.

This HTML is for all of you that have expressed your political opinions not just on the current people in the news, but also on the wars that we as a nation have been and are in the midst of still.   Recently, I reacted severely to a media war article referred to me by a friend.   As I analyzed my reaction, I realized that I hold some firm convictions based on constant misinformation by our media and our politicians.   And one of these is that the military will always have more information than the bystanders upon which to make informed decisions

However, I have a problem that is the same for all of us.   We are all subject to the daily deception of our media and our politicians as well as our own self-deception, intentional and unintentional.   As my father used to say, "Believe nothing that you hear and only 50 percent of what you see."   As a child I remember my brother asking our mother, "How do we know when you are kidding and when you are not kidding?"   Mother responded, "That's for me to know and for you to find out."   In addition, mother taught us never to lie because the consequences would be worse than telling the truth.   I am convinced that memory plays a key role in how successful we are in living an honest life.

But we are all plagued with two forms of false memory that constantly work against us.   The first form is "Convenient Memory."   Simply stated, we remember what we want to remember when we want to remember.   The second form is "Constructive Memory."   Again, simply stated, we conveniently build a memory that never happened so that we can remember what we want to remember when we want to remember.   Only a short amount of browsing on the Internet will expose all kinds of examples of these two forms of false memories.

Another problem with our media and political input is distance and obtaining correct information.   I have never forgotten an experience I had in Viet-nam.   The AP wire service released information that Pleiku had been overrun by the enemy.   I was stationed in Pleiku at the time, and dispatched a letter to my mother and father that day about the AP wire service being less that truthful.   i.e. We were never overrun, nor had there been any attack whatsoever.   Therefore, I present the following critical remarks about our politicians and government as incoming salvos by friends in retaliation against the hype we are bombarded with on a daily basis.

USVETS:
We have a Veteran's Preference issue we think you should be made aware of
My son got out of the Marine Corps with 2 good conduct medals and an honorable discharge, served 8 years. Had security clearances from the military.  He was promoted to Staff Sergeant and earned his Bachelor's degree while in the service, 8 years.  He was denied being a PA state trooper because he was in a fist fight in 11th grade and forgot to put this on his application, he was never arrested for the fight.  The creep that dismissed him from the high school was just charged and is in the news Father Killian for raping 4 male students!!!  JR Beech had a score of 30/2000, with his veteran's preference, got turned down due to the high school drama which occurred when he was 16,  appealed and ignored.  This is a SEVERE and sneaky way of STEALING/UNDERHANDEDLY TAKING AWAY HIS VETERAN'S PREFERENCE.  HE CAN COME HOME IN A BODY BAG BUT HE ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH TO GUARD OUR NATION'S HIGHWAYS.  HE HAS GONE THROUGH THE ENTIRE APPEAL PROCESS AND WHAT A JOKE.  HE IS AWARE I AM CONTACTING YOU AND WILLING TO DISCUSS THIS STORY TO MAKE A CHANGE IN THIS SYSTEM IF NOTHING ELSE.  HIS LEGAL FIRST NAME IS JR, AND HIS LAST NAME IS BEECH.  I AM HIS MOTHER, MICHELLE BEECH-MIELKE.

HE OR I CAN BE CONTACTED AT 215-346-2186 , HIS CELL IS 215-681-2880, MY CELL IS 267-255-0529./  I HOPE YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THIS AS I AM SURE OTHER VETERAN'S ARE GETTING THE SHAFT THE SAME WAY.  PLEASE UNDERSTAND, HE WAS NEVER ARRESTED FOR THE FIGHT THAT HE WAS IN, HE GRADUATED FROM ANOTHER CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL.  HE TOLD THE STATE TROOPER WHEN QUESTIONED" WHY SO MANY HIGH SCHOOLS" DURING HIS BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION AND  THE QUESTION REMINDED HIM OF THE INCIDENT, He was told because he omitted this from his application he was denied to be a Trooper.  THEY TOOK AWAY HIS VETERAN'S PREFERENCE, 30/2000 APPLICANTS, FOR SOMETHING THAT DID NOT KEEP HIM OUT OF THE MARINE CORPS!!!! He truly did not remember and did not even think of the fight.  After all, he had veteran's preference and served our country well and proudly.!!!  We need justice, he tried appealing,.... .. what a joke.  We also tried to appeal through State Representative Thomas Murt ....who's secretary finally told me, oh I thought we got back to you on that,.... there's nothing that can be done.  PEOPLE NEED TO BE MADE AWARE OF THIS INJUSTICE, the system needs fixin.  Good enough to guard the country, but not good enough to guard the PA State Highways!  Ironically, I don't really want my son to become a state trooper, however, we are very disturbed by this injustice, as are all of the members of my home and school community who I have shared this situation with.  HE PASSED ALL PARTS OF THE BACKGROUND CHECK, INCLUDING LIE DETECTOR TEST!!

Scott,
Thank you for the fraud and swindle video about medical care for retired military personnel.   I have the following cases of clear fraud and swindle to add to your list:

1. I recently saw recruiting claims repeated that had been made during the 1950s, stating that military service provides the leadership experience needed for success in a civilian career.   As you know, I recently went through four appeals before the Merit System Protection Board, three of which were against the U.S. Geological Survey.   At the most recent hearing, witnesses for this agency falsely alleged that I lacked the management and leadership experience necessary to hold a position in that agency.   When I asked the witness whether consideration was given to the fact that I had served almost five years of active duty as a commissioned officer in the Air Force and received my honorable discharge as a captain, the witness gave me a patronizing look and said that my leadership experience was not with a civilian agency or private employer and therefore is not even considered as qualifying for anything.   The recruiting promise must be fraudulent if even federal agencies do not consider any kind of military experience as qualifying for any civilian job.

2. Veterans' preference in civil service employment is another promise that has proven to be fraudulent, even though this one is permanently anchored in federal statutes and in the laws of most states.   The same U.S. Geological Survey filled roughly 35 vacancies with non-veterans, although I had the highest examination score on most of the hiring certificates.   The agency held that if a veteran appeared first on the certificate, the selecting official had the right to hire a non-veteran with a lower score from another certificate.   As many as eight certificates were created to fill one vacancy, so the scores actually meant nothing.   For example, if a veteran had a score of 105%, placing him 8 points higher than the applicant in second place, the agency would simply discard that hiring certificate and pick the non-veteran the selecting official wanted from another list on which the veteran's name did not appear.   The appeals process puts the nail in the coffin of veterans' preference.   The Veterans' Employment and Training Service (VETS) of the Department of Labor assists about 1 if every 1000 veterans who file complaints, and it never assists a veteran who complains about a civil service selection.   The Office of Special Counsel received complaints from about 6000 veterans and whistleblowers between 2002 and 2006 and investigated these complaints or assisted the complainants 0% of the time.   It was estimated that these 6000 uninvestigated complainants listed more than 11,000 individual violations of the law, including criminal offenses.   The good news is that Special Counsel Bloch is facing indictment for obstruction of justice by a grand jury.   The Merit System Protection Board has never ruled in favor of a veteran in a final decision, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has made rulings to nullify the veterans' preference laws.   The conclusion is that fraud is routine when a veteran applies for a civil service job, and the promise of veterans' preference is a swindle.

I am sure that other veterans have other examples of violations of promises.   Please send this information to interested veterans so that young Americans can be warned about these scams.

To get more detailed information about fraud by the federal government, I would suggest contacting some of our Indian tribes.   They signed many treaties, which the federal government already started breaking before the ink was dry.

Charles W. Heckman, Dr. Sci.

Scott,
If you recall Bush wanted to eliminate the $75 a month combat pay apparently because he had declared that the war was won early on.   McCain

Scott,
McCain now is against a new GI bill because it may induce troops to leave the service which is just one anti GI posture among many.   Anymouse

Scott,
The only reason we had a 9/11 commission was because a widows group insisted upon finding how their husbands were killed and how we could prevent it in the future.   Bush opposed it stonewalled the commission on white house documents, reluctantly testified but only with Cheney at his side with no transcripts and finally opposed a time extension to complete the report which was granted only because the widows put up another stink.   Why would a president not want to know how we were attacked and what to do to prevent it in the future?   Anymouse

My response to this last question is that we have proof that the president was informed that Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction before giving orders to attack.

My response to all of the above is that it is all about money.   I was informed that the U.S. Supreme Court was asked by our president to reverse the decision in favor of our WWII concentration camp soldiers to get paid by Japan, Germany, etc. (for our soldiers forced labor) because our president said it would cost too much money and strain our relations with these countries.

Hi Scott:
Seems someone is waking up about Pakistan!

I was just reading the paper this morning, and it seems someone in the current administration (or perhaps some military commanding officer) is doing SOMETHING about the tribal area of Pakistan.   It may be more helpful in our efforts in Afghanistan, but the benefits will not necessarily be confined to that effort.

That area has been a refuge for al-Qaida and the Taliban for far too long.   I imagine our government and military have been aware for some time, but apparently finally diplomatic pressure is being put on Pakistan to seriously do something about the problem.

Since this article by Josh Meyer of the Los Angeles Times comes from your neck of the woods, I suppose you have already read it, but I'm truly pleased to hear that possibly Pakistan (and perhaps the U.S. also) is going to do something about it.

I'm praying this will save some U.S. Military lives and perhaps some of the innocent civilians (doubt they are a huge number, but figure some may exist) also.   If we start going after that nest of vipers, I'm praying some serious progress can be made in the war.   Anymouse

Dear Anymouse,
Actually, I have read many articles on Iran, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, etc.   What gripes me the most is the fact that we are losing more soldiers in Afghanistan than Iraq because we moved most of our troops to IRAQ!   Changing the Iraq tour-of-duty from 15 months to 12 months doesn't help our troops in Afghanistan one bit.   Personally, I think everybody has their own agenda and all media and politicians are as deceptive as HELL!   And the real insanity is that they are all AWAKE!

Word of warning, you don't want to bother me with media articles on the military objectives and military contemplations (radio, TV, newspaper, etc.)!!!!   If you want some real eye-openers, let Col. Dan Cedusky tell you how Obama brushed-off some of our troops during his trip to IRAQ!!!! among other live observations by veterans!!!!

As my Grandfather Gadbois told me when I was a little more than eleven-years-old, "Politician is synonymous with Crook."

Take care of yourself, the United States citizens deserve what they elect because the United States citizens are not capable of separating truth from the following:

July 29, 2003

To: State Bar of California

Some attorneys and government agencies have built piles of convoluted hornswoggle whose only purpose is to bamboozle veterans, other lawyers, clients, and government agencies.   2003 Scott Linsley

And this is from a veteran who risked courts-martial twice because I stood up for the truth and not some convoluted military policy and procedure.   And I still received U.S. Army commendations when serving our country states-side and while serving in Viet-nam.   Scott

While I know I shocked Anymouse with my response, I later added the following:

Dear Anymouse,
Don't take anything I say personally unless I use your name directly as you will see in my next HTML (Deceiver).   Just remember that yours truly believes most people do not have a clue as to what is going on in a war zone.   Moreover, I am sure that you are aware of more facts than most.   e.g. Gandhi had to separate the Hindus and Muslims into Pakistan and India, respectively.   Isn't it ironic that a Muslim killed Gandhi because he believed Gandhi gave too much to the Hindus?   Scott

    The Great Pretender

Oh-oh, yes I'm the great pretender
    Pretending that I'm doing well
My need is such I pretend too much
I'm lonely but no one can tell

Oh-oh, yes I'm the great pretender
Adrift in a world of my own
I've played the game but to my real shame
You've left me to grieve all alone

Too real is this feeling of make-believe
Too real when I feel what my heart can't conceal

    Yes I'm the great pretender
Just laughin' and gay like a clown
I seem to be what I'm not, you see
I'm wearing my heart like a crown
    Pretending that you're still around

Too real is this feeling of make-believe
Too real when I feel what my heart can't conceal

    Yes I'm the great pretender
Just laughin' and gay like a clown
I seem to be what I'm not, you see
I'm wearing my heart like a crown
    Pretending that you're still around
