Dvorak's Largo (Going Home)

Notes: I have always thought that Paul Robeson was a magnificent singer. Paul Robeson was in the same category as the Great Caruso and Mario Lanza. He is definitely among the opera singers that I admire most. I have often wondered what Dvorak would have said about the words that were put to his haunting Largo. I give you the words as arranged for Paul Robeson on this page and as sung by him on the Paul Robeson page in the following:

Many arrangements have been written for Dvorak's Largo. Many of them are beautiful and some are sung by gospel singers around the world. I only include one adaptation next, but it is a good representation of the many I encountered in my research. May you enjoy this HTML as much as I did in collecting the pieces to build it.

Going home, going home,
I'm just going home;
Quiet-like, some still day,
I'm just going home.
It's not far, just close
by,
Through an open door;
Work all done, care laid by,
Going to
fear no more.
Mother's there expecting me,
Father's waiting
too;
Lots of folks gathered there,
All the friends I knew,
All
the friends I knew.
Home, Home, I'm going home!
Nothing
lost, all’s gain,
No more fret nor pain,
No more stumbling on the
way,
No more longing for the day,
Going to roam no
more!
Morning star lights the way,
Restless dream all
done;
Shadows gone, break of day,
Real life’s just begun.
There's no break, there's no end,
Just a living
on;
Wide-awake, with a smile
Going on and on.
Going home,
going home,
I'm just going home,
It's not far, just close
by
Through an open door.
I’m just going home.
GOING HOME!
What makes a house a home? People, of course!
