There are at least three reasons the United States has sunk to a high unemployment level.

Ross Perot
One reason was touted by Ross Perot who championed opposition to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), urging voters to listen for the "giant sucking sound" of American jobs heading south to Mexico should NAFTA be ratified.
A second reason is due to corporations shifting jobs overseas to labor forces that have almost wiped out goods manufactured in the United States.
Another reason is the increase of H1B1 visas issued by our government on behalf of our corporations which has two detrimental side effects: Loss of jobs by American citizens and brain drains of the countries that need their educated citizens.
Do not confuse this last reason with immigration of illegal aliens.
The voters might want to ask themselves: Which candidates can put a cork in this situation and reverse it? And if you would like to see one viewpoint of what cheap goods and lost jobs have done to the United States, please be sure to view the Flash Video below.
An effort is being made by ABC7 TV in Los Angeles to get people to buy "Made In America" products which will add jobs to our economy and lower our importation of cheap goods from overseas. I would welcome any and all e-mails regarding other efforts across the United States.
The creator of PPP saw this all coming many years ago when she created the Petey, Petunia, and Priscilla characters. Company benefits were shrinking or disappearing. Retirement plans were changing into 401K plans. Company health insurance deductions were increased on a regular basis. And companies no longer fostered a feeling of family by eliminating family picnics and adding employment phrases to the hiring contract such as "Fire-at-Will." Here at two of her drawings depicting the future that she saw coming.

Lost Jobs Parody

People often wonder why I choose the music I add to my creations. This one was very easy. The line at the bottom of the first stanza says, "I'm gonna take you for a ride."
SHUFFLE OFF TO BUFFALO
From the film "42nd Street" (1933)
(Music by Harry Warren)
(Lyrics by Al Dubin)
Now that we have had the rice and flowers
The knot is tied
I can visu'lize such happy hours
Close by your side
The honeymoon in store
Is one that you'll adore
I'm gonna take you for a ride
I'll go home and get my panties
You go home and get your scanties
And away we'll go
Mmm-mmm-mmm
Off we're gonna shuffle
Shuffle off to Buffalo
To Niag'ra in a sleeper
There's no honeymoon that's cheaper
And the train goes slow
Ooh-ooh- ooh
Off, we're gonna shuffle
Shuffle off to Buffalo
Someday, the stork may pay a visit
And leave a little souvenir
Just a little cute "what is it"
But we'll discuss that later, Dear
For a little silver quarter
We can have the Pullman porter
Turn the lights down low
Ooh!
Off we're gonna shuffle
Shuffle off to Buffalo
*****
As performed in the film "42nd Street":
Now that we have had the rice and flowers
The knot is tied
I can visu'lize such happy hours
Close by your side
The honeymoon in store
Is one that you'll adore
I'm gonna take you for a ride
I'll go home and get my panties
You go home and get your scanties
And away we'll go
Mmm-mmm-mmm
Off we're gonna shuffle
Shuffle off to Buffalo
To Niag'ra in a sleeper
There's no honeymoon that's cheaper
And the train goes slow
Ooh-ooh-ooh
Off, we're gonna shuffle,
Shuffle off to Buffalo
Someday, the stork may pay a visit
And leave a little souvenir
Just a little cute "what is it"
But we'll discuss that later, Dear
For a little silver quarter
We can have the Pullman porter
Turn the lights down low
Ooh-ooh-ooh
Off we're gonna shuffle
Shuffle off to Buffalo
You'll go home and get your purses
I'll go get my niece and nurses
And away we'll go
Mmm-mmm-mmm
Off we're gonna shuffle,
Shuffle off to Buffalo
To Niag'ra in a sleeper
There's no honeymoon that's cheaper
And the train goes slow
Ooh-ooh-ooh
Off we're gonna shuffle
Shuffle off to Buffalo
Someday, the stork may pay a visit
And leave a little souvenir
Just a little cute "what is it"
But we'll discuss that later, Dear
For a little silver quarter
We can have the Pullman porter
Turn the lights down low
Ooh-ooh-ooh
Off we're gonna shuffle
Shuffle off to Buffalo
Matrimony is baloney
She'll be wanting alimony
In a year of so
Still they go and shuffle
Shuffle Off to Buffalo
When she knows as much as we know
She'll be on her way to Reno
While he still has dough
She'll give him the Shuffle
When they're back from Buffalo
*****
When recorded by singers in England, "panties"
and "scanties" were replaced with the words
"clothses" and "these and thoses":
Now that we have had the rice and flowers
The knot is tied
I can visu'lize such happy hours
Close by your side
The honeymoon in store
Is one that you'll adore
I'm gonna take you for a ride
I'll go home and get my clotheses
You go get your these and thoses
And away we'll go
Off we're gonna shuffle
Shuffle off to buffalo
To Niagara in a sleeper,
There's no honeymoon that's cheaper
And the train goes slow, Mmm!
Off we're gonna shuffle
Shuffle off to buffalo
Someday, the stork may pay a visit
And leave a little souvenir
Just a little cute "What is it?"
But we'll discuss that later, Dear
For a little silver quarter
We can have the Pullman porter
Turn the lights down low
Off we're gonna shuffle
Shuffle off to buffalo
With the wedding ring upon your finger
It's done, we're one
It's not customary that we linger
And so let's go
We'll dodge the rice and shoes
We're going for a cruise
Way up the road to Buffalo
I'll go home and get my clotheses
You go get your these and thoses
And away we'll go
Off we're gonna shuffle
Shuffle off to buffalo
To Niagara in a sleeper
There's no honeymoon that's cheaper
And the train goes slow, Mmm!
Off we're gonna shuffle
Shuffle off to buffalo
Someday, the stork may pay a visit
And leave a little souvenir
Just a little cute "What is it?"
But we'll discuss that later, Dear
While the passengers are sleeping
The Conductor will be keeping
All the lights down low
Ooh, off we're gonna shuffle
Shuffle off to buffalo
Shuffle off to Buffalo
