Notes: 2 wheelbarrow jokes follow, some inspirational sayings, and the lyrics.
I worked on a farm for 2 Summers with my God Parents and their children (7 in all).
Saturday night we would all go to New Ulm for polka dancing and ice cream.
They had 5,000 people and 3 high schools (Lutheran, Catholic, and Public).
I wouldn't trade those experiences for all the money in the world.
I share them and the hard working people of New Ulm with you through the Internet.

How Poor is Poor?

In Russia, a peasant reported for work at the farm gate every morning.
The guards were always at the gate watching everyone suspiciously.
The peasant would push a wheelbarrow loaded with hay to the gate at days' end.
The guards always inspected the hay for stolen objects.
After a month or two, another peasant asked what he was stealing.
The peasant replied, "Wheelbarrows."

Strength against Age

A strong young man at the construction site was bragging that he could outdo anyone in a feat of strength. He made a special case of making fun of Morris, one of the older workmen. After several minutes, Morris had enough.

"Why don't you put your money where your mouth is?" he said. "I will bet a week's wages that I can haul something in a wheelbarrow over to that outbuilding that you won't be able to wheel back."

"You're on, old man," the braggart replied. "It's a bet! Let's see what you got."

Morris reached out and grabbed the wheelbarrow by the handles. Then, nodding to the young man, he said, "All right. Get in."

The Beer Barrel Polka

(Brown-Tim-Vejvoda)

There's a garden, what a garden
Only happy faces bloom there
And there's never any room
For a worry or a gloom
There's music, and there's dancing
And a lot of sweet romancing
When they play the polka
They all get in the swing
Everytime you hear that Oom-pah-pah
Everbody feels so tra-la-la-la
They only want to come back for one thing
They crowd around and sing trolly-olly-ay
And you hear that rumble on the floor
It's a big (HA HA HA HA) surprise you're waiting for
Then all at once everybody, everybody, forms a ring
(Spoken: Come on everybody get up and form a ring. That's
the way, everybody get up and form a big ring. That's the way.
Then all at once you form a ring. Everybody get up and form a
ring. Here's a tenth of everybody....)
For miles around, you'll hear them sing

Roll out the barrel, We'll have a barrel of fun
Roll out the barrel, we've got the blues on the run
Zing Boom Terrara
Join in a glass of good cheer
Now it's time to roll the barrel
For the gang's all here (Spoken: Take it away boys!)

Beer Barrel Polka

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Beer Barrel Polka is a song which became world wide well known during World War II. It is known also as Roll Out the Barrel. The music was originally composed by the Czech Jaromír Vejvoda in 1927. Eduard Ingris wrote the first arrangement of the famous song, after Jaromir Vejvoda came upon the melody and sought Eduard Ingris' help in refining it. At that time, it was played without lyrics as Modranská polka (Polka of Modrany). Its first text was written by Václav Zeman in 1934Škoda lásky (Wasted Love).

The polka went to the world very soon. In 1938, Will Glahé sold one million copies of its German version Rosamunde and got a Gold Album for it. Shapiro Bernstein published the song under the name of Beer Barrel Polka a year later. The authors of English lyrics were Lew Brown and Wladimir Timm. Meanwhile, the song was played also by many others, for example Andrews Sisters, Glenn Miller Orchestra, Benny Goodman or Billie Holiday.

During World War II, versions in many other languages were created and the song was popular among soldiers of most of armies, despite of the side where they fought. It was claimed many times that the song was written in the country where it just became a hit. A real author became world wide known as late as after the war.

A former Foreign Minister of Germany Hans-Dietrich Genscher even made a bet that it was a German song. He lost.
