Lavender-Blue (Dilly Dilly)
Sammy Turner
[Words and Music by Larry Morey and Eliot Daniel]
Lavender blue
Dilly-dilly
Lavender green
If I were king
Dilly-dilly
I'd need a queen
Whoa-oh, who told me so
Dilly-dilly
Who told me so
I told myself
Dilly-dilly
I told me so
If your dilly-dilly heart
Feels a dilly-dilly way
If you'll answer yes
In a pretty little church
On a dilly-dilly day
You'll be wed in a dilly-dilly dress of
Lavender blue
Dilly-dilly
Lavender green
Then I'll be king
Dilly-dilly
You'll be my queen
Then I'll be king
Dilly-dilly
You'll be my queen
(Lavender blue, dilly-dilly)
[Charted at #3 in 1959]
[Previously charted in 1949 by Sammy Kaye #4]
[Dinah Shore #9]
[Burl Ives #16]
[Jack Smith #17]
[Sung in the film "So Dear To My Heart"]
Notes: My brother, Bill and I were fortunate to have seen this film
while growing up together. Bill was 18 months younger and loved all
animals and was loved by all in return. "So Dear to My Heart" is a
great film and all parents should see this with their children while
their children are as young as the boy with the black lamb.

I have a friend that's always
there, Ready to lend a hand. One who cares
about my heartaches, And seems to
understand.
A good friend that I can count
on, When days are so weary. Someone to share
my deepest thoughts, When nights are so
dreary.
It seems I never find the words,
To show appreciation. The sweet friendship
that is offered, Is an inspiration.
With these true words I send my
love, And thanks I do impart. As YOU my
friend will always have, A place within my
heart.
